Match-3, Schmatch-3

Shawn McGrath (who you may remember from his GAMMA 01 game, I Have Big Balls) is about to release an iPhone game. Chain3 is a match-3 game except not really since the game allows you to take any item and move it anywhere on the board (with your FINGER!), thus making 3 of the same kind match really easy to pull off and not much of a challenge at all.. But the game looks interesting because the goal isn’t the creation of matches, but rather of chains of matches. Hence the name. For some reason this game gives me a strong Lumines/Meteos/Every Extend Extra Exo Excellence Extreme Excelsior Extended feel, which are all “puzzle” games took basic elements of gameplay and turned them on their heads to create something new, something more time-based, more skill-based than the word puzzle would lead you to assume. One question, though, does the game use any other of the iPhone’s fancy gizmometry?Chain3 is out as soon as Apple’s iPhone store-thing launches.
